Maria Dost is a photographer and filmmaker from Berlin, currently working in Pakistan. Initially a theater practitioner and film producer, Dost ventured into the realms of photography during a time of illness, when she lost her ability to speak. During this time, photography became a vital form of expression replacing spoken word. Fortunately, a year later she recovered her voice but continued to communicate through her photography.
Over the last five years, Dost has worked on various subjects in collaboration with Pakistani artists and photographers, her work being exhibited twice in Berlin. Also she is doing workshops on photography in various educational institutions in Pakistan. Maria is interested in documenting the people in Pakistan, their thoughts, emotions and expressions through her photography.
